The Year 9 students of Townsville Grammar School are under the care of Head of Middle School, Mr David Terblanche, whose role is the pastoral care of the students. He is ably supported by Form Teachers who meet weekly to discuss issues pertinent to the Year 9 cohort.

The students, teachers and Head of Middle School meet at the Year Level Assemblies, held on Fridays, where students are informed and involved in topics relevant to Year 9.

Leadership is a key focus in Year 9 and each student has the responsibility of looking after their Year 7 buddy. Throughout Semester Two, a large focus is given to subject selection and preparing students for their transition to Senior School. 

Participation in student-led committees is also encouraged.
