Welcome to Boarding

Boarding

Chris WilsonTownsville Grammar School is the only non-denominational, co-educational boarding school in North Queensland. The boarders are under the specific care of the Director of Boarding Mr Chris Wilson (pictured right), assisted by House Parents and over 20 Residential Boarding Staff.

Our boarders are drawn from a wide national and international demographic with the majority being for the rural west and north-west of Queensland. The boarding community of 150 boys and girls are an integral and important part of the School. They live on-campus for the 38 weeks of the School year.

At Townsville Grammar School we believe that our core purpose in boarding is to care for and nurture the students who have been placed in our charge.  We strive to make residential life a positive experience for all students by providing a care system that recognises the individual and provides a caring ‘family like’ environment based on trust, cooperation and open communication.

Accommodation is provided in four main boarding houses and ‘satellite residences’ arranged horizontally with the majority of boarders (124) housed in Parker Hall. Each boarder has a semi-private area which encompasses both their sleeping and study facilities.

Townsville Grammar School offers liberal leave model. Boarders may be granted leave (with parental permission) on any weekend of the year. We believe that spending quality time with family and friends in a homely environment is healthy.

Evening studies are supervised by resident staff, while academic staff provide some tuition on specific nights. Boarders also have access to most of the School's academic and sporting facilities outside school hours.

In tandem with the School's curricular and co-curricular activities, boarding at Townsville Grammar is part of a totality of experience which contributes to our students' personal, physical, social, cultural and moral development.
