Scholarships & Bursaries

Scholarships & Bursaries

Financial assistance with tuition fees is available through one of a number of  avenues: Academic Scholarships, Music Bursaries or Boarding Bursaries. For students undertaking the International Baccalaureate, there is also an International Baccalaureate Scholarship. For external candidates, the General Excellence Bursary or Special Ability Bursary may apply.  All Scholarships and Bursaries listed provide partial remission of fees.

Academic Scholarships are available to students who are due to enter the school in Year 7, 8 and Year 11 the following year, ie. those who are in Years 6, 7 or 10 when they sit the exam. These are open to any student currently enrolled at the school OR prospective students from another school.

The scholarships for students entering Year 7 are for four years (Year 7, 8, 9 and 10), the scholarships for students entering Year 8 are for three years (Year 8, 9 and 10) and the scholarships for students entering Year 11 are for two years (Year 11 and 12). During these periods they are also subject to an annual review of the student's results and conduct. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and this is decided through examinations.

An external examination company, the Australian Council for Educational Research, (ACER), sets and assesses these scholarship examinations and provides Townsville Grammar School with a rank order of merit for those who completed the examinations. Upon this basis, the Board of Trustees then offers partial scholarships which defray tuition fees only. The examinations themselves are usually conducted in the year prior to entry early in the year. Both successful and unsuccessful candidates are notified, by mail, of the outcome of these tests.
