3 June 2013 - TGS recognised for outstanding NAPLAN Results
The Weekend Australian has recently published its annual guide to the nation's top performing NAPLAN schools, analysing information on more than 9,500 schools across Australia.
The Weekend Australian also provides an interactive YourSchool website: www.theaustralian.com.au/yourschool for parents to access individual school results.
Townsville Grammar has been ranked 14th in the "Top 100 Secondary Schools" in Queensland based on Year 7 & 9 NAPLAN results from last year. Townsville Grammar was the only regional school listed in the top 20 schools in Queensland, with the only other Townsville school listed in the top 100 being St Margaret Mary's College (88th). SMMC does not offer Year 7 so it has been allocated a nominal Year 7 result in lieu of a real score.
Other Grammar Schools listed in the "top 100" Queensland schools were as follows:
1. Brisbane Grammar School
2. Brisbane Girls Grammar School
14. Townsville Grammar School
28 Ipswich Girls Grammar School
46. Rockhampton Grammar School
47. Toowoomba Grammar School
92. Ipswich Grammar School
Principal Richard Fairley commented that "...this result is a wonderful affirmation of the work done by students and teaching staffing in ensuring that Literacy and Numeracy skills are embedded as pivotal building blocks within our broad educational framework. Whilst rank orders can be highly problematic, NAPLAN results do provide the opportunity for teachers to identify gaps in knowledge and adjust our programmes accordingly."
