The Health and Physical Education Faculty programmes at Townsville Grammar School attempt to reflect the dynamic and multi-dimensional nature of health and recognise the significance of physical activity in the lives of individuals and groups in contemporary Australian society.
The Faculty aims to provide a foundation for developing active and informed members of society, capable of managing the interactions between themselves and their social, cultural and physical environments in the pursuit of good health.
Students in Year 7 participate in six periods of Health and Physical Education per fortnight. In Terms 1, 2, 3 and 4 students participate in a variety of theory and practical units, which aim to develop positive personal health behaviours and sport skills and tactics.
In Years 8 and 9 Health and Physical Education students will participate in six lessons per fortnight. Two lessons focus on the written theory of Health and Physical Education and four lessons are allocated for physical activity including personal fitness development.
Physical Education is an elective subject in Year 10. This subject is designed to prepare students for the QSA subject Senior Physical Education offered in Years 11 and 12. Students engage in the study of physical activities, theoretical focus areas and forms of assessment that are evident in the Senior Programme at Townsville Grammar School.
Senior Physical Education (Years 11 and 12)
Physical Education is an Authority Subject, providing opportunities for students to acquire knowledge, skills, capacities, attitudes and values about physical activity. Students learn ‘in, through and about’ physical activity, where the physical medium becomes the conduit through which theoretical learning occurs. Sports offered may include:
