TGS to host Junior Schools Engineering Competition
Schools from Townsville and Charters Towers will compete in the inaugural Junior School Engineering Competition, hosted by Townsville Grammar School and conducted by James Cook University’s Engineering Faculty.
Twelve teams will compete in the challenge where they will be using Knex to design and construct a bridge which will be judged on weight and strength.
JCU Engineering students will deliver a masterclass at the beginning of the day, and will be judging the students’ final constructions to determine the winners, with prizes donated by Absolutely Dental.
Townsville Grammar School Principal, Mr Timothy Kelly, said the event is a fantastic opportunity for junior school aged children to engage in a STEM-based challenge, with a focus on engineering.
“We are very grateful to JCU’s Engineering faculty for facilitating this program and we look forward to the teams collaborating, creating and engaging in the spirit of the competition,” said Mr Kelly.
12 Teams will compete in the competition from the following schools:
- Townsville Grammar School - Annandale Campus
- Townsville Grammar School - North Shore Campus
