Move over Rio – the Olympics are coming to Townsville this week!
Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students at Townsville Grammar School’s Annandale Campus will dress up to participate in the Olympic themed Infant Sports Day on Friday. Each class has been assigned a country that will be participating in the Rio de Janeiro game.
The day will begin with the official opening ceremony with the Olympic hopefuls marching into the arena to represent their countries. The costumes involved are serious business - the 150 young Grammar students and their teachers put as much effort into their costumes for this march past as they do their competition on the day!
The Master of Ceremonies, aka Assistant Head of Junior School, Mr Chris Gray, will welcome all the Olympians to the games and officially open the 2016 Townsville Grammar School Olympic Games. The students will then participate in Olympic themed games of athletics, followed by a short sprint to end the morning – all while remaining in costume!
The annual Infant Sports day has become a popular event on Townsville Grammar School Annandale Campus’s annual sports calendar as a fun way to introduce athletics to the younger children.
