A grand total of 346 students will receive a Cum Laude Award at Townsville Grammar School’s annual Cum Laude Award Ceremony on Monday.
Chancellor of James Cook University, Mr Bill Tweddell (pictured), will be the guest speaker for the Year 10 to 12 ceremony. Bill is also a past student of Townsville Grammar and was a Prefect, Captain of his sporting house and Head Cadet Under Officer in the TGS Cadet unit. He subsequently went on to have a distinguished career in Australia’s diplomatic service spanning four decades, serving Australia in the Phillipines, Vietnam, UK, India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Year 12 students who have consistently achieved a Cum Laude Award from Year 8 to Year 12 will receive a special award, the Morwood Award. Two students, Belinda Dennis and Krishna Patel, have achieved a Maxima Cum Laude every year from Year 8 to Year 12 – an enormous achievement! The Morwood Award is named after former Headmaster, Mr Alan D Morwood who was the 9th Headmaster of the School (1976-1992). During his 17 years as Headmaster, Mr Morwood successfully role modelled the virtues of scholarly leadership and personal humility.
