Headshave for Shedspace for Headspace

Townsville Grammar School’s Year 10 students all undertake a  community service activity during the course of the year as part of their Service Learning.  One Yr 10 Form class has nominated their teacher as the winning attraction of their fundraising event to help build Australia’s first Shedspace for Headspace.

The anticipation is growing as students wait to find out who will win the blade wielding responsibility of shaving away Mr Simon Ward’s hair and leaving a unique design for him to sport for the rest of the week. In addition to having his head shaved, Mr Ward will also be ‘vandalised’ as the funds raised have exceeded his target.

“Mental illness is the biggest health issue affecting our young people and it impacts their ability to engage with school. As a teacher, I want to help young people follow a path to a fulfilling life, so I am honoured to be vandalised for this cause,” Said Mr Simon Ward Head of ICT and eTraining at Townsville Grammar School

All funds raised will go towards building Australia’s first Shedspace here in Townsville. Shedspace aims to be a place for young people to go and engage in art, musical activities, woodwork and mental health work.

The students have set up a MyCause fund raising page (currently over $500) which is open for donations:

The hair shaving for Headspace will take place over lunchtime on Monday 12th of June.
