From Winton to the USA, this Cowgirl is living the dream!
Holly Forster, (Year 9) has recently qualified in all 4 of her events to compete in the U.S.A National High School Rodeo Association Finals (NHSRA) to be held in Lebanon, Tennessee in June this year. The NHSRA is the “World’s Largest Rodeo,” featuring approximately 1,500 contestants from across the United States, Canada and Australia.
Holly competed at the Australian High school Rodeo Association finals, and after a grueling 3 day event, she was named Rookie All Around Cowgirl and also the Australian Ribbon Roping Champion.
Due to her accomplishments over the last 12 months she has also been invited to compete in the Texas youth Rodeo finals held in Texas.
Training is difficult for Holly as she is currently a Boarder at Townsville Grammar School and it’s 600km away in Winton where she calls home… and where her horses are kept.
Emma Forster, Holly’s mum says “Lucky for us though there is air services like Rex Airlines that service out West. We often fly her home for weekends to go roping or camp drafting. Townsville Grammar School has been great with their co-operation with Holly’s absences due to her sporting commitments.”
Mr Chris Wilson, Head of Boarding at Townsville Grammar says it is no surprise that Holly achieved this much in her co-curricular activities as she gives the same determination in her schooling life.
“Holly’s effort in everything she does resembles everything that a true Grammarian stands for, and encompasses a huge amount of Grammar Grit. There is a buzz of excitement around the boarding house at the moment as everyone has such a close family bond. We look forward to watching her journey together”
One thing is for sure, Holly will have the entire school community behind her and we are all very excited!
Holly is the current Australasian 3d barrel racing champion for ATRA (Australasian Team Roping Association) and was the recipient of the Winton Australia Day Junior Sports Person award for this year.
