Students at Townsville Grammar School’s Annandale Campus will be taking their grandparents to class this Friday for the annual Grandparents & Special Friends’ Day.
Head of Junior School, Mr Noel Nethery said this annual event is always a highlight in the calendar. “Our families love Grandparents’ Day and look forward to it every year,” said Mr Nethery. “We’re never really sure who it enjoys it more – the children or the grandparents!”
The school has been running the annual event for many years as a way of celebrating the relationships that exist across the generations.
“This year we have more than 300 grandparents who have registered to attend and they will be spending the morning in the classrooms with their grandchildren and enjoying a range of activities including a morning tea and concert. We know that many of the grandparents are travelling to Townsville from all over Australia to take part in this day, which is a wonderful indicator of how much our community loves this event.
“The invitation has also been extended to special friends such as aunties, uncles, adult siblings or cousins, so that children can invite someone special in lieu of their grandparents.
“It’s a wonderful way of building on our strong community foundations that have existed since the opening of this campus in 1997.
“The children are very excited at the thought of bringing grandma and grandad to school on Friday.”
