This faculty has two distinct streams of subjects, Business and Humanities. All Middle School students (Years 7-9) study the Humanities through a semester each of History and Geography, with Civics being embedded into the units of work investigated. In the Senior School (Years 10-12) a range of Business and Humanities subject electives are offered.
The study of Business and Humanities facilitates the development of knowledge, skills, attitude and values which enable students to participate as active and informed citizens in a democratic society within a global community.
Studying Business and Humanities subjects at Townsville Grammar School provides students with wonderful opportunities to experience subjects which have a genuine connectedness with the ‘real world’ through excursions, guest speakers and practical activities. For example; students who study Senior Legal Studies participate in Mock Trials at the law courts, Year 10 Business Studies and Senior Economics students participate virtually in the share market through the ASX Share Market Game, Senior Accounting and Legal Studies students enjoy visits from guest speakers and attend annual conferences at the James Cook University, Geography students participate in excursions to gather information in the field, whilst History students visit local museums and are visited by guest speakers.
In the Senior School (Years 10-12), the Faculty provides a seamless progression of learning across the final three years of students’ schooling. Our Year 10 subjects have been designed to dovetail with Authority Senior subjects and to introduce students to the academic expectations of Years 11 and 12. Our unique structuring of Senior subjects allows students three years, rather than the typical two, to fully develop specific skills and knowledge. In our pursuit of best practice for our students, we strongly believe that our approach to skills and knowledge acquisition enables our students to fully realise the School’s motto: Bonus Intra Melior Exi – Come in Good and Go out Better.
