At Townsville Grammar School, the Educational Support Centre performs a vital role in supporting students with individual learning needs. The Educational Support Team works collaboratively with parents, teachers and students to tailor learning experiences and adjustments that focus on the social, emotional and educational development of these students during their important years of adolescent growth.


At the North Ward campus, the Educational Support Centre:

  • provides within classroom support, small group and individual support to identified students across Years 7-10;
  • works collaboratively with parents, students, teachers, non-academic staff and external stakeholders (such as Advisory Visiting Teachers and health care professionals) to identify the differential, focused or intensive learning needs of students, reasonable adjustments and resources;
  • provides ongoing guidance and support for students, parents, teachers and non-academic staff; and
  • provides identified students with additional academic assistance, in a caring and supportive environment, through the Year 7 – 10 Literacy Support programme.

The Educational Support Centre is also responsible for the management the Education Adjustment Program (EAP) in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005).  The EAP is a process for identifying and responding to the educational needs of students with disabilities recognised under the following categories: Autism Spectrum Disorder, hearing impairment, vision impairment, physical impairment, speech-language impairment and intellectual impairment. Adjustments are made for students with disabilities to enable them to access the curriculum, achieve curriculum outcomes and participate in school life.  The EAP process involves an ongoing cycle of data collection, planning, program development, intervention, documentation, profiles, evaluation and review. Through the implementation of this process, an increased understanding and awareness of students with disabilities and individual learning needs needs has filtered through the whole School.

The Head of Educational Support, Miss Kathryn Tebble, is committed to identifying the barriers that inhibit some students from participating in, and achieving their full potential within their educational development. Students requiring additional support can be identified by self-referral, parent or teacher referral.
