Mon 18th March
Year 7-9 Townsville Grammar School students will be learning how to be smart with their money on Thursday this week.
The students will learn how to be confident with cash through a series of workshops run by the Commonwealth Bank’s Start Smart Programme. The workshops will focus on different topics and explore financial concepts such as understanding the impact of financial choices, getting their first job as well as saving and budgeting.
As an adjunct to their regular Mathematics lessons, Grammar will host a guest speaker from the Commonwealth Bank to co-ordinate the workshops, answer questions and provide the young teens with knowledge about managing their money for future years.
Year 7 will be learning about smart choices which includes concepts such as financial responsibilities, emotional motives affecting financial decisions and the difference between needs and wants.
Year 8 will focus on smart enterprise, which details the inception of a small business, including the ideas behind creating a new business, analysing market needs and starting a small business.
The Year 9 group will learn about smart earning, particularly topical for the age group where many students start their first job. The students will be taught about what happens when they have their first job – their right and responsibilities, tax and pay slips.
The Smart Smart programme was launched in 2007 and runs in over 200 schools across the country.
