Inclusive Education & Student Support at Townsville Schools
Inclusive education is all about ensuring everyone at schools is valued and supported to learn, participate, develop and succeed fully. Creating an inclusive school environment focuses on initiatives that support students with disabilities and other needs. At Townsville Grammar School, we’re one of the leading independent schools in Townsville with a commitment to provide tailored educational support to help students with diverse learning needs.
Catering to Diverse Student Differences
Celebrating diversity at Townsville schools is all about creating a vibrant, responsive education system committed to supporting the participation and achievement of all students. Responding to student needs requires acknowledging intersecting needs around disability or additional learning needs along with any cultural, social, economic or other personal factors that may impact their education outcomes.
Education Support at our Grammar School
At Townsville Grammar School, we provide opportunities for every student to access and fully participate in learning as part of an inclusive environment. We achieve this by making reasonable adjustments and tailoring teaching strategies according to the student's educational, social, and emotional needs, including:
- Providing individual, small group and classroom support for students across all year levels.
- Collaborating with parents, students, teachers, non-academic staff, and other stakeholders like health care professionals to find ways we can remove learning barriers with resources and reasonable adjustments.
- Offering ongoing support and guidance for students as well as parents, teachers, and non-academic staff.
- Providing additional academic assistance in a supportive and caring environment for identified students through the Year 7 to 10 Literacy programs.
Students who need additional education support can be identified by self-referral or by parent or teacher referral.
Education Adjustment Program
Our educational support also includes the management and delivery of the Education Adjustment Program (EAP), which is delivered in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005). The EAP identifies and responds to the needs of students with disabilities under certain categories. This includes autism spectrum disorder, vision impairment, hearing impairment, speech language impairment, physical impairment and intellectual disability.
