Representative School Sport Pathways – North Ward Campus
The North Ward Campus offers students the opportunity to participate in representative school sport through a clear pathway from school trials to regional and state-level competitions.
TSS (10–12 yrs) – Townsville School Sport
The TSS trials are for primary school students (ages 10–12) in the North Ward Campus. These trials give students the chance to compete in inter-school competitions and progress to higher-level selection.
TSSS (13–19 yrs) – Townsville Secondary School Sport
The TSSS trials are for secondary students in the North Ward Campus. Students can nominate and try out in various sports, with successful participants progressing through the regional representative pathway.
NQ School Sport (North Queensland School Sport)
The NQ (Regional) Trials are a key step in Queensland’s representative school sport pathway. Students (ages 10–12 and 13–19) compete for selection in North Queensland teams across sports such as netball, rugby league, football, swimming, and track & field.
Key Points:
- Students are nominated for district trials by their school or sports coordinators. Successful students may progress to NQ regional trials.
- Trials provide opportunities for students to represent their region and possibly advance to state-level competitions.
- Participation requires completing the nomination and consent process, paying any levies, and meeting eligibility criteria (age group and school enrolment).
- Students selected for an NQ team must agree to attend the State Championships. Dates are listed on the nomination form.
Important Information for Parents and Students
- Students must have experience in the sport to attend trials.
- There is a limit to the number of students who can be nominated.
- Students usually must attend the TSS or TSSS trials before being eligible for NQ trials. If they do not attend the district trials, they cannot attend the NQ trials.
- Trial information is typically shared 2–3 weeks before the event, with nominations due the week prior.
- All trial details and nomination forms will be posted in the Daily Notices and can also be collected from Palm Cottage.
- It is the student’s responsibility to check the Daily Notices and ensure they complete a form for any trials they are interested in.
- Completed forms must be emailed to [email protected] or returned to Palm Cottage for the Director of Sport and Activities to sign.
- Students must bring the signed form to the trials.
- Forms must be completed in blue or black pen only—pencil will not be accepted.
- Names are not added to the nomination list until the signed form is returned to the Co-Curricular Office.
- Late forms cannot be accepted once nominations are finalised.
- If a student is injured and cannot attend, an official exemption form must be completed. School camps or excursions are not valid reasons for exemption—only the options listed on the form are accepted.
