Theatre Club

Theatre Club at the North Ward campus provides an opportunity for students to build their confidence and improve their lateral thinking, self-expression, teamwork, and communication skills outside the classroom. It is a space where creativity is encouraged, individuality is celebrated, and students can explore performance in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

Theatre Club runs Thursday afternoons from 3:45–5:00?pm in the Performing Arts space.

Throughout the year, Theatre Club members will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of theatre-based activities designed to stretch their skills and challenge them in new and exciting ways. Students will learn how to work collaboratively, respond spontaneously to different scenarios, and explore characterisation, improvisation, scripted work, and movement.

Through Theatre Club, students will be able to participate in the following:

  • Theatre Sports
Students will take part in fast-paced improvisational games that encourage quick thinking, creativity, and teamwork. Theatre Sports helps students build resilience, adaptability, and the ability to think on their feet — essential skills both on and off the stage.
  • The Scene Project (with QLD Theatre)

Our continued partnership with Queensland Theatre gives students the chance to work with a professionally developed script, guided by industry practitioners. Students collaborate to interpret and stage a scene, gaining valuable insight into the creative development process and experiencing what it’s like to work in a professional theatre environment.

  • The Townsville Eisteddfod
Students may also showcase their work in the Townsville Eisteddfod, presenting ensemble or individual pieces in a public setting. Participation in the Eisteddfod helps students build performance confidence, celebrate achievements, and engage with the wider arts community.

In addition to these structured opportunities, Theatre Club aims to foster a strong sense of community. Students develop friendships across year levels, share ideas, and support one another as they explore the performing arts. Whether students aspire to pursue theatre seriously or simply want to have fun and try something new, Theatre Club offers something for everyone.
