Prep at Townsville Grammar School is a full time, five days a week programme, offering a complete experience with all of the additional educational opportunities.

All students entering the Prep year must turn 5 by 30 June of that year.

Prep contributes to the continuing growth of young children’s knowledge and understanding of themselves and the world around them.

The Townsville Grammar School Prep programme is based on a combination of the Australian Curriculum and children’s interests. These are continually extended and integrated through classwork play, their strengths and stages of development.

The experiences provided help create an awareness of the changing world and foster positive personal and social attitudes. Opportunities are also provided for the development of healthy living habits and creativity. Through social interaction and participation in activities suited to their needs, children enhance their language and cognitive development.

Through the provision of a stimulating, positive and caring environment, children experience the joy of learning.

Each class has weekly lessons with Specialist staff in each of the following areas. This allows them to access teaching expertise beyond that of their own classroom teacher which creates a wonderfully stimulating learning environment.

In Prep the Specialist Lessons are in:

  • Music
  • Performing Arts
  • Physical Education
  • Library
