Year 7

Our Year 7 Experience

The Year 7 Program is a tailored curriculum that bridges the gap between upper primary and lower secondary, equipping students to become independent learners.

The Year 7 Program caters for the academic, physical, social and emotional needs of students, allowing for a successful transition into Middle Schooling.

Staff

The Head of School  is supported by the Year Level Co-ordinator for Year 7, and Heads of House for Years 8-12. The Year 7  Coordinator is located in the Middle School Precinct which has a dedicated student/parent reception.

Pastoral Care

The Year 7 Co-ordinator  delivers the Pastoral Care Program, supported by the Core/Form Teachers.

The Pastoral Care Program is centred on the Positive Education model, and is supported by a range of activities such as the buddy program, camps and tours, community service opportunities and co-curricular offerings. Townsville Grammar School’s Pastoral Care Program is also supported by the School Psychologist and Co-ordinator of Student Wellbeing & Development.

Curriculum

The Director of Studies has overall responsibility for the co-ordination of curriculum in the Middle School (Years 7-9) and is supported by a Curriculum Team that consists of the Head of Teaching & Learning, the Year 7 Co-ordinator, Heads of Faculties and the Head of School.

The Year 7  Co-ordinator  leads a team of core subject teachers assisting students in transitioning to high school. Curriculum is designed to develop literacy and numeracy programs with connections across subject disciplines.

The Middle School Teachers, the Pastoral Care Team and the Curriculum Team work collaboratively to ensure a student-centred approach to teaching and learning and an educational philosophy that is built upon high expectations and high support.

Year 7 Program

Students will have a Core Teacher for each of the Key Learning Areas - English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. Core Teachers are also Form Teachers, enhancing the link between curriculum and pastoral care.

  • Modern Languages
  • Music

Year 7 Camps & Tours

The Year 7 Camp is held at the end of Term 1 and is a great opportunity to develop friendships and bond as a cohort through various outdoor activities and team challenges. The various adventure-style activities result in many first time experiences for the students, and is often said to be the most memorable event in Year 7.

Year 7 students also have the opportunity to participate in the Melbourne Tour, a great experience that highlights the many cultural, sporting and iconic attractions of this great city. The Melbourne Tour has long been a highlight of the Year 7 calendar and is another great opportunity for developing independence and confidence, as well as having loads of fun!
