Leadership & Service

Service Leadership is one of the hallmarks of a Grammar education and a vital part of the pastoral care approach, from Junior School through to Senior School.

Every student at Townsville Grammar School has the opportunity to explore leadership within themselves and to develop a service-leadership mindset, which will help them beyond school to be contributing and respectful members of society.

Junior School Service & Leadership

Junior SchoolCommunity Service

Children in the Junior School are introduced to community service through involvement in charity fundraisers, school theme weeks and community events. Students can join the Junior School Community Service Group which focuses on local, national and international causes. The group often works collaboratively with the Secondary School's Interact Club.

Students are also regularly involved in school and community based events and activities that help them to learn about the needs and causes of the wider community and environment.

Junior School - Leadership

Leadership opportunities increase as the children progress through Junior School. In combination with learning about personal character strengths through the Positive Education program, students develop awareness of self-responsibility and respect for both themselves, others and their environment through leadership and service opportunities and activities.

Examples include:

Year 5 leadership preparation
Students are immersed in learning about the qualities of effective leadership in preparation for leadership roles in Year 6.

Melior Exi Program
In Year 6, students are invited and encouraged to participate in the Melior Exi Program, a year-long commitment to developing a new skill, outdoor adventuring, team work and collaboration. Learn more about the Melior Exi Program.
