Food Appeal NQ

Hundreds and hundreds of non-perishable food items have been crowding the rooms of Townsville Grammar School for the last few weeks, as students have been contributing to the School’s annual Food Appeal to help feed Townsville’s needy families.

The Grammar Interact club co-ordinates the Food Appeal and encourages Form classes to compete against each other to see which one can contribute the most food items.

On Thursday morning, the Interact Club students will be loading these thousands of food items for the Food Relief NQ at the Bohle. All items will then be re-distributed to aid organizations within Townsville.

“Community service comes in many forms, but we find that the Food Appeal each year holds a real meaning for our children – the fact that there are many people in Townsville who cannot afford to even feed themselves is a very humbling reality for most teenagers.  We are very aware that the numbers of these citizens in our community is only growing – especially in these hard times - and we need to nurture a service mentality amongst our students to help others wherever they can.

“Every year we are overwhelmed at how well children respond to help other local families and children just like themselves. The fact that this Food Appeal is so successful also speaks volumes for the community spirit of our families,” said School Principal, Mr Richard Fairley.
