STEM students - giving the gift of light

Townsville Grammar Junior School students are giving the gift of light to communities in PNG that have limited or no electricity.

As part of Townsville Grammar Schools STEM program, 50 year 3 students will be collaborating with Professor Rod, YWAM representatives and teachers from the School. Together the students will be constructing 25 solar powered lights which will be donated and distributed to PNG communities.

The engineering workshop is being held as part of science week, students will use the exercise to further their knowledge of electric circuits and solar power, solar radiation and the importance of light.

“Our schools STEM program is a great opportunity for interactive learning. Our students are excited to be working on this project, helping to make a difference to the lives of people living in communities in PNG that have limited or no electricity.”   - Shandelle O’Reilly, Primary Teacher at Townsville Grammar Junior School
